Book Blurb (Goodreads):
Fourteen-year-old Dylan Kershaw’s idea of a dream holiday includes at least three things: beaches to bask on, cosmopolitan culture, and a chance for romance (or at least his first kiss) with another boy. Unluckily for Dylan, this year his mum’s treating the family to the least dreamy holiday ever: a £9.50 break at Starcross Sands, Cornwall’s Crummiest Caravan Park.
But Starcross Sands might not be so bad after all, especially if Dylan can win the heart of Jayden-Lee, the gorgeous boy in the caravan next-door. There’s only one thing standing in true love’s way: the park’s massive hamster mascot, Nibbles, who seems to have it in for both Dylan and his romantic chances. Dylan’s best friend, Kayla, claims that appearances can be deceptive: so is Jayden-Lee just as lovely beneath the surface, and what could be lurking under Nibbles’ furry face?
I knew the minute I saw the cover that I needed to read this book. I wasn’t sure what it was going to be about but the cover is so lively and fun that I hoped I was in for a laugh-filled adventure. I was not disappointed.
Going on a £9.50 holiday to a caravan park sounds like you’re setting yourself up for disappointment, but this park sounded amazing – if you weren’t Dylan. Poor Dylan is just having the worst luck and it revolves around the park’s mascot – a giant fluffy hamster – who appears everywhere Dylan is apparently just to ruin the moment.
This book had me howling at parts. It’s so over the top ridiculous, you can’t help but laugh at poor Dylan’s misfortunes. Between keeping an eye on his littlw brother, trying to keep his best friend happy and secretly stalking the gorgeous boy in the caravan next door his holiday is anything but uneventful.
All the characters are lively and jump off the page. You’ll love some and hate others and that’s what makes them all so great.
Personally, I loved the hamster. He’s amazing.
A fun-filled, chaotic rom-com. This is a fantastic summer read to get you in the holiday spirits.
